Download failed? Troubleshooting tips

Updated August 2026

Most failures come from the source platform, the type of link, or fair-use limits — not from a broken button. Work through this list in order.

1. Confirm the link is public

Open the URL in a private/incognito window without logging in. If you cannot watch it, SaveVideo usually cannot fetch it either (private, friends-only, or deleted).

2. Use the official share URL

Prefer the platform’s share link. Avoid shortened trackers that do not point at the media, or playlist-only links when you meant a single video.

3. “Sign in to confirm you’re not a bot”

Large platforms often block data-center IPs. We mitigate this on our side when possible, but it can still happen. Wait and retry later, or try a different public video to confirm the tool works.

4. Rate limits

To keep the free service sustainable we limit downloads per IP and total daily bandwidth. If you see a rate-limit message, try again after the window resets (hour or day).

5. File too large

There is a maximum file size per job. Choose a lower quality format if available, or use a shorter clip.

6. Browser tips

  • Allow the site to download files (check blocked downloads in Firefox/Chrome).
  • Disable aggressive extensions temporarily if fetch never starts.
  • Try another network if corporate firewalls block media CDNs.

7. “Server busy” or concurrent limit

Only a couple of heavy jobs run at once so the free server stays responsive for everyone. Wait a moment and try again.

8. Browser download blocked

Firefox and Chrome sometimes hold downloads behind a permission prompt or “insecure download” warning. Check the downloads panel. If a third-party extension blocks blobs or cross-origin media, try a clean profile.

9. Still stuck?

Email contact@savevideo.tech with: the platform, a non-sensitive public example URL, approximate time (UTC), and the error text shown. Do not send passwords or cookies.
