How to download a YouTube video online
This guide shows how to save a public YouTube video as MP4 — or extract audio as MP3 — using SaveVideo in your browser. You do not need an app or browser extension.
What you need
- A modern browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Edge)
- The link to a public YouTube video or Short
- A stable internet connection
Step 1 — Copy the video URL
Open the video on YouTube (website or app). Use Share → Copy link.
Supported patterns include youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/…, and Shorts URLs.
Private, unlisted-with-restrictions, age-gated, or live streams may not work.
Step 2 — Open the YouTube downloader
Go to savevideo.tech/youtube-downloader (or start from the home page).
Step 3 — Fetch info
Paste the URL into the box and click Fetch info. When successful, you should see the title, length, and available formats.
Step 4 — Download video or audio
- Download video (MP4) — best merged quality we can provide for that link
- Download MP3 — audio extraction for personal offline listening when allowed
- Optional format — pick a listed stream if you need a specific quality
When processing finishes, click the download button. Links expire after about 15 minutes.
YouTube Shorts
Shorts work the same way: open the Short, copy its link, paste it into SaveVideo, then fetch and download.
Tips for better success
- Use the official public share URL (not a screenshot or private playlist only link).
- If fetch fails, wait a minute and try again — platforms sometimes throttle cloud servers.
- Very long or very large videos may hit our size or bandwidth limits.
- Read fair use & copyright before redistributing anything.
Is this the same as YouTube Premium offline?
No. YouTube Premium offline downloads stay inside the official app with licensing agreements. SaveVideo is an independent helper for public links when the platform allows automated access. For everyday music and licensed offline libraries, official apps are usually the better choice.
Quality, formats, and expectations
“Best” quality depends on what streams are currently offered for that video and what our server can merge. Some videos only expose limited formats to third-party tools. If the file looks softer than the player, try another format from the list (when shown) or retry later.
