How to download Instagram Reels and public videos
Instagram Reels and posts are easy to watch in-app, but saving a public video file for offline personal use often needs an external step. Here is how to do it carefully with SaveVideo’s Instagram downloader.
What works best
- Public Reels with a standard share URL
- Public video posts on open profiles
- Links that open in a logged-out browser tab
What usually fails
- Private accounts and close-friends stories
- Ephemeral content that has already expired
- Carousel posts where only images are available
- Region-locked or heavily rate-limited endpoints
Steps
- Open the public Reel or video in Instagram.
- Tap the paper-plane / menu and choose Copy link.
- Visit savevideo.tech/instagram-downloader.
- Paste the URL → Fetch info → download MP4 when ready.
Temporary files expire quickly. If the button appears, save the file to your device storage immediately.
Privacy tips for you
- Do not paste login cookies or session tokens into random sites (we never ask for your Instagram password).
- Prefer public share links over screenshot workflows that leak personal chats.
- If you are downloading your own content, official Meta “download your information” tools are the most complete archive method.
Creator respect
Re-uploading a Reel with minor crops still harms creators. If you want to showcase someone else’s work, use platform-native share/embed features or ask permission. Our copyright guide explains the spirit of personal use.
Troubleshooting
If fetch fails, open the link in a private window. If Instagram asks you to log in, the post is not public enough. See full troubleshooting for rate limits and bot checks.
